At our very core, we essentially are a professional creative group that works to brand your team. We make long-lasting, bold designs that are applied to the strongest, most comfortable high-performing water polo gear around the world.
MONSTERPOLO was conceived in 2005 by, Jimi Campillo (me), who was driven to give back lots of love to the water polo community for the experience of playing, coaching and the pure joy of seeing my daughter do the same.
By creating excellence in design for teams that appreciate great and cool design (mostly 97% of them!) our team has achieved success.
Creating an easy platform where players, coaches, parents, team reps can effortlessly access great design and have their gear made to the highest production standards and manufacturing locally by expert craftsmen in the trade. Our tools are what your team performs in daily-- day in and day out, through thousands of rigorous hours in the pool.
We started in a beautiful state where everything comes together and great things happen.
We dove right in. In 2005 we slapped together a few t-shirt designs. Excitement builds. We make tournament t-shirt designs, UCSB, Santa Barbara Womens Tournament was our first. T-shirts sell out before end of day Friday. Next day, girls come by and want to buy the tourney tee. I say, "you guys play?" "No, our roommate plays, she got one yesterday, we saw it--it was sooo cool, we wanted them too". Wow!
Winterfest followed. Barham Hojreh, wants t-shirts for his tournament. We re-design his Winterfest logo. We make it cool. Easy to do- winter based theme, low-level of difficulty, we knock it out-of-the pool! Day of event, before first game has ended, I get a call from Barhma, shirts have sold out. Moms in line buying for their whole team.
NCC, National Club Championships follow, then Cal Cup 2006, Santa Barbara Water Polo Camp, Coastal California League, USCC, Hale Tournament, Premier League... Team Vegas 24 Hour Tournament, Florida Invitational (we sell out, and go eat at De Vito's on South Collins! - every night!)
Meet, Mihalis Konstas, he would make suits and caps for us in Greece from his uncle Lukatos. Let's go. We came up with a "Black and White" collection of five mens suits. It took off. Spark. Flame. Burning desire.
Instant sell-out of the BW suits. More orders placed. Followed by the "Fierce" series; "Concreto", "High Voltage", "Pit Bull", "King Waste"... Then "Drive By", "Toxic Fuzz". Teams now wanted suits designed. Lukatos, hustling. Lukatos busy. Lukatos makes money. Everyone happy. Everyone asks, "Can you make our team suits this fall?" -YES. Lukatos say, "No". No? Now what? We got orders.
Have you ever walked the Downtown Los Angeles garment district, in desperation, looking for fabric that you're not sure what it is? I have. Right before boarding the plane with my Rose Bowl Water Polo team to Hawaii- heading to the Hawaiian Invitational Tournament- (we won the U12, the U14, but no way were we allowed to win the finals of the U16, lost by 1, sketchy referring- what's new, right?) I was on the phone trying to find someone who could sublimate and sew water polo suits. Found a contractor who did contract work for Bebe. Found fabric. Bought all his poly fabric rolls. Got to working. Delivered. Got more orders. Went back to get more fabric- no more, that was all he had, he was a jobber. Only sold close-out fabric. Back on the horse, called around and found a source
